A tested AI Employee is not doing anything on its own yet. It needs somewhere to have the conversation and an automation to work with. Any automation can be used with an AI Employee, including those triggered manually. If you have not connected a channel yet, see Messaging channels first — then come back here to build the automation.

Build an automation

Go to Automations in the top navigation and click Create new automation if your list is empty.
  1. Set the trigger’s channel. The editor opens with a Trigger block set to New incoming message. Click into it and choose the channel you just connected.
  2. Add your AI Employee. Open the Channel Menu on the right, search for the AI Employee option, and select which employee handles this automation.
  3. Optionally add extra guidelines. These apply only inside this automation, not everywhere the employee is used — useful for a one-off task or a narrower boundary. See Automation guideline overrides.
  4. Select which exit points are active. An exit point configured on the employee does not apply automatically — if it is not selected here, the automation will not use it.

A Contact Not Replied condition lets you close, reassign, or hand off to another employee if the customer does not reply within a set window — place it wherever it is useful in the flow. See Reply timeouts.

Publish

Once the automation is set up the way you want, publish it to start receiving real conversations. See How AI employees work in automations and Add to an automation for the full reference.
