# Labels

> Tag contacts with labels on the Contacts table and contact profile.

**Labels** segment and organize contacts (for example `VIP`, `Lead`, `Support`). They live on the **contact record** and appear in the Contacts table, Inbox contact card, filters, and automations.

## Apply labels on Contacts

1. Open [**Contacts**](https://app.heyy.io/contacts).
2. Open a contact or use row actions to **add or remove labels**.
3. Optionally show a **labels column** in the table via [Column order & visible fields](/help/contacts/mini-crm/column-order-and-visible-fields).

## Create and manage label definitions

Label names and colors are configured in [**Settings → Labels**](https://app.heyy.io/settings/labels).

Use labels in [saved contact views](/help/contacts/search-and-filters/saved-contact-views) and [automations](/help/automations/triggers/label-added) (for example when a label is added or removed). For bulk label changes, see [Bulk actions](/help/contacts/search-and-filters/bulk-actions).
